Leanda Cave

There is no dispute that Leanda Cave has established herself as among the best in our sport. Her performance in 2010 which included wins at Miami 70.3 and Florida 70.3 as well as a 2nd place at the 70.3 World Championship leaves no doubt that the prolific swim/bike speedster from Louth England is a force to be reckoned with at any distance. Cave has won the prestigious Escape from Alcatraz 3 times and finished 8th at the Ironman World Championship in 2008. Cave has been crowned both ITU short course World Champion and ITU long course World Champion - a feat accomplished by only a select few women.

Leanda's career at a professional triathlete started back in 1994 and she has since transformed herself from a short course specialist to a potential Ironman Champion. Leanda is known for having one of the best swim/bike one-two punches in the sport and her improving run makes her a legitimate threat at any distance.

Leanda currently lives full time in Tucson Arizona with her husband Torsten Abel who is also a professional triathlete.

Leanda Cave - 2009 Escape From Alcatraz race report

October 28th, 2009
Escape from Alcatraz was no disappointment this year, despite not taking the win for a 3rd time. I was very happy with 2nd. The weekend prior I raced in the Rev 3 Triathlon (half ironman distance) in Connecticut. That was a bit of a disaster, as I trained pretty much through it. I ended up in 7th place. It was one very toughest races I have done, over a super hilly bike and run course, and as I found out, not the sort of race you dont want to do on tired legs.

Leanda Cave - 2008 season wrap up

January 22nd, 2009
I am currently enjoying my time out in Cairns, Australia after a year that saw some great results, good results, and ones I would rather forget. Its really nice to chill out and see my parents for the first time in a couple of years. They have been my biggest fan well before I took the road of being a professional triathlete.
